Always good and the people are super-friendly. Live music on most Friday and Saturday nights. You can't beat the food or the atmosphere. ;)

My husband and I have been there several times and loved it, so we thought we would celebrate my birthday there on Friday. It took a very long time to get food, our plates were not being cleared, we were given steak knives to eat our meal once it was received. Come to find out the assistant chief walked out and the wait staff were not only taking care of waiting but they were also cleaning dishes and preparing meals. I hope they get this fixed because it love the restaurant and I am disappointed that this was an experience we had.

Food was very tasty. Danny found a way to provide us last minute seating.. Thanks for a very nice meal before going to Dead Air at the theater.

Food is above average and service was also exceptional. Place is small with limited seating but the atmosphere is very nice and cozy. Prices are higher than average with the dinners around $22 each and the portions are just right. Don't expect to be taking home any leftovers. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there and will be going back.

Wonderful experience in an intimate and cozy restaurant. The food was amazing and the live jazz just brought it all together. Service was friendly and paced in a good manner. I will be back for another wonderful meal and enjoyable experience.

Four of us went, without a reservation. Got lucky, got a table. Had four very different plates that were enjoyed by all. Love the jazz music!

Food wasn't quite what I would expect from the prices. It was good, but there are plenty of other places with better food for less money. We sat for awhile before someone came and took our order, but we were in the back room where no one was (during late night music). Still was a good 15-20 mins before we were taken care of.

So I've been around. I've travel half the world.I have never so thought enjoyed a diner, a night on the town as tonight at Jimmy's.If you are with 100 miles of Lynchburg VA and don't treat yourself to the rich experience that this place offers, you are cheating yourself.The prices are fair.The entertainment is lively.The owners are fantastic people involved themselves with people.I rarely give five stars. I don't always tip.Most establishments don't deserve half of what they get.Jimmies on James made a cranky traveler enjoy the night. And everyone else was laughing too.I can't wait to come back.

Jimmy's on the James has moved up to my new #1 place to eat in Lynchburg. The food is probably the best I've had in Lynchburg for a long time and I really enjoy the atmosphere of the resturant.

My first time to visit. Nice ambience good food and drinks. Service was excellent. There is also live music.

Had dinner at Jimmy’s on the James tonight. Want to give it 4 or 5 stars BUT....... so the food was great. Fried oysters, lamb, filet, etc. really good. Renee playing piano bar was five star. Her spin on music was fantastic. Worth going just for her. Guy bartender was great. Attentive and great drinks. But...... girl bartender/waitress that concluded our meal was RUDE!!! She rolled her eyes at everything. When we requested our dessert to go and when we requested our check. She had friends at the bar that she kept disappearing out back with. Clearly more important stuff going on than our business. Just made the end of our evening bad. Thought the management should know.

Always great food and service. You can tell Bob is very proud of his restaurant. My steak was cooked perfectly. The live music was good. The only thing I would recommend is that the young lady who was our server, while doing an excellent job in her duties,wear a more appropriate uniform while representing for such a nice place. She was wearing, from what I could tell leggings while Bob was dressed up more and it just seemed out of place.

Amazing little place... didn't realize there was anywhere like it in Lynchburg! Loved the decor & the live pianist singing was a wonderful experience. The food was fabulous & the bartender made the experience great! I highly recommend visiting... it's not what I expected!

The food was excellent! The service was dismal. We sat at the bar. The bartender was more concerned about her regular guests than us.

Cool place. It is popular mostly with adults crowds. The drinks were good and not too expensive. The music is loud enough to be fun and engaging but not so loud that you can't talk with the people you came with.

Good food, slightly small plates, but great variety and execution. Reservations are a good idea, it is a small dining area.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice and their menu had a decent selection. I was disappointed in the portions and overall taste. I ordered the crab/seafood sandwich with truffle fries and there were literally 10 fries on the plate. The crab/seafood patty was very bland and there was little to no sauce on the sandwich. I just didn't feel any soul in the food, it just seemed slapped together. I will give them another try, maybe it was just an off day.

Loved having dinner music and a 2nd group after dinner. The food and service was outstanding. I enjoy tge small cozyness of the restaurant.

A Little disappointed. Had good reviews but our food was not up to par. Steak cold and grey looking. Crab tasted fishy.

Jimmy’s is a nice upscale restaurant perfect to take friends and family to for special occasions such as graduations, birthdays and business meetings. They offer a nice variety of delicious food options. A highlight of Jimmy’s is they have someone playing the piano!

Our family just returned from an excellent evening at Jimmy's on the James. We celebrated my mother-in-laws birthday and were treated to such great customer service. Hannah, our server, was friendly, personable, and quick. The owner was equally nice. And the food was delicious. I'm a stickler for good customer service but to be treated so warmly and with great service was just an absolute treat! The private room was also full of great ambiance. Definitely returning again!

I recently had a private party here for my friend who is getting married. The owner went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect! He even put put fresh flowers on the table for us. The food was AMAZING and the service was phenomenal. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for private events or just a good dinner!
